Geographical Information Systems (GIS)

Environmental Impact RC&D has completed work on the utility information system for the Townsof Aberdeen and Pinebluff located in Moore County and Star located in Montgomery County.  This project involved mapping all the towns' water, sewer and electrical systems components and linking them together to provide each town with a better organized, updated mapping system.  This technology will provide these towns with a tool for future planning and repair projects, adding new facilities and attributes as they come on line.

Longleaf Pine/Animal Waste Research

The goal of this project is to establish research plots on private longleaf pine stands to evaluate the impact of applying poultry waste to longleaf pine ecosystems.  The project has the potential to identify a new land use for the application of managed poultry waste in an effort to reduce overloading of nutrients on cropland and pastureland; thus, minimizing the risk of polluting surface and ground waters.

Town of Robbins Elm Street Project

This water management project was designed to reduce flooding of homes in a small community in Robbins, North Carolina.  A grant from the Division of Water Resources paid for 66% of the work.  Environmental Impact planned the project, conducted a grant search and prepared the grant proposal for the project.  The objective was to solve the storm water problem without destroying the entire ecosystem directly behind the homes.

Waste (Mixed) Paper Bedding Research

This project had two purposes--to find a use for mixed waste paper and to provide an alternative to the increasingly costly wood shavings/sawdust traditionally used as bedding in poultry houses.  Thirty-five thousand pounds of ground mixed waste paper was installed in six 40' x 500' chicken houses on local farms.  Environmental Impact RC&D  is currently working with the NC Department of Commerce in an effort to locate a new waste paper recycling plant in the local service area...

On-Farm Composting Demonstration

All citizens are dependent on agriculture for a safe, dependable supply of food products.  This agricultural  research/demonstration project on animal composting was developed by Environmental Impact RC&D  to protect our streams and ground water supplies by providing a safer disposal system for farmers.  It allows farmers to recycle waste and animal carcasses into a useable organic fertilizer.
